Saint Firmin was from a noble family: her father, Calpurnio, was the prefect of the city of Rome ( praefectus Urbis ). Having the opportunity to live comfortably, Saint Firmin left the family and devoted herself to prayer near the city of Amelia. She suffered for faith during the reign of Emperor Diocletian .
Saint Firmin is known for many miracles revealed to sailors near Civitavecchia ( Centumcellae ). So through her prayers a terrible storm was pacified. At that time, the saint lived in a cave not far from the place where the fort of Archangel Michael was subsequently cocked .
About Saint Firmin is known from the passion , compiled no earlier than the VI century .
Honor
Memory of st. Firmin, as the patroness of the two cities, is celebrated every year on November 24 in Amelia (Terni) and on April 28 in Civitavecchia (Rome). So in Amelia there is a picturesque procession on the basis of the ancient charters of the city municipality dating back to 1346. In the city of Civitavecchia, a striking historical procession takes place in celebration. At the same time, the statue of the saint is transferred to the ship at the port, where in memory of the miracles revealed by Saint Firmin at the sea, the saint is celebrated, accompanied by sirens of ships, fishing vessels and ships participating in the festive procession.
