History

In 1979, an urban male basketball team was created from the pupils of the Sports School No. 1 of Stavropol at the DSO “Trud”, which began to regularly take part in the Championship of Russia and the USSR. In 1980, the team was renamed “Kavkaz” and transferred to the defense DSO “Zenit” , which is supervised by the Neptune plant, director Konovalov B.P. In 1980-1981, the team became the Champion of the USSR DSO Zenit. The Kavkaz team represents Stavropol in the First League of the Russian Championship and in all the final games of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the RSFSR.

In 1989, the city professional basketball club "Caucasus" was created. In the 1990/1991 season, the team takes 1st place in the Russian Championship “Class A” and gets the right to participate in the First League USSR Championship.

In the next 1992, the Kavkaz team was renamed Aleko and the general sponsor of the team was the Moskvich URAO, director A. Yashkunov. Also in 1992, the team held 11 games in the United States (Iowa), of which 7 won.

In 1993, the Aleko team holds 13 matches in Mexico against the national team playing in this country, the Americans and wins in 6. In the 1993/1994 season, Aleko takes 1st place in the Russian Championship among the teams of the Major League Division B. And next season Aleko becomes the 15th team in Russia.

In 1996, Aleko began to have problems with financing. The club essentially breaks up, a non-profit partnership “Territorial Basketball Club Stavropol” is created, which has become the successor to Aleko. In the 1996/1997 season, the team takes 17th place in the Russian Championship.

In 1997, the club was renamed the "Stavropol-Border Guard", which is supervised by the Red Banner North Caucasian Border District , represented by its commander and club president Bolkhovitin E.V. In 1998, the team took 1st place in the Premier League and transferred to the Super League.

Right before the start of the 1998/1999 season, financial prospects were vague, a budget was not formed, but Bolkhovitin, the main patron of the team, was still able to knock out money so that the team could spend the season in the Super League. The composition of the "Stavropol" was almost completely formed of local pupils, there were no funds to attract outside experienced basketball players. In 19 matches, the team won only 4 times and did not take the last place only due to the fact that Sportakademklub withdrew from the tournament due to bankruptcy. At the second stage, where there was a struggle for tickets to the playoffs among the teams of the eastern and western divisions, in 36 matches the Stavropol team won only 6 victories and took the last place.

Due to unstable financing and untimely payment of the application fee for the 1999/2000 season, the club was forced to downgrade. In the Premier League of the Russian Championship, the team took 2nd place with the right to play transitional games for entering the Super League Championship Division B. According to the results of two transitional games, the Moscow Dynamo was beaten. In the 2000/2001 season, the team takes 10th place in the Super League “B”.

In the 2001/2002 season, due to the difficult financial situation and the small budget of the club, the team was forced to move to the Premier League. The composition of the team is completely updated by young players from the student teams and pupils of children and youth sports schools in the city of Stavropol and Stavropol Territory. This season the team takes 12th place.

The team finished the 2005/2006 season in 10th place in the Premier League of Division “A” of the Russian Championship.

In the 2006/2007 season, the team is renamed Dynamo-Stavropol, which oversees the Dynamo Regional Council, represented by its chairman, Hero of Russia Oleg Mikhailovich Dukanov, and takes 12th place in the Major League Division A of the Russian Championship among men's teams.

In the 2008/2009 season, the team takes 8th place in the Russian Championship among the men's teams of the Major League Division A. Also in 2008, the team became the owner of the Southern Federal District Basketball Cup, for which all players were awarded the title of “Candidate for Master of Sports”.

In the 2009/2010 season, Vagif Emirmetovich Gadzhimetov, USSR master of sports, is appointed head coach of the team, and Vladimir Vasilyevich Shekhovtsov becomes the second coach. January 24, 2010 a tragic event takes place in the team. In the 56th year of his life, the long-time player and club director Alexander Nekrasov suddenly died. According to the decision of the board of trustees of the club, the acting director of the club is appointed Halyavsky Arkady Ilyich. The team takes 10th place in the Championship of Russia among the men's teams of the Major League this season.

In the 2010/2011 season, the Dynamo-Stavropol team took 12th place in the Russian Championship among men's teams of the Major League.

After the season is over, Perevalov Sergey Pavlovich is appointed to the post of director by the decision of the club’s board of trustees, the master of sports of the USSR Dmitry Lokhansky, the head coach of the master of sports of the international class, Zhukanenko Yuri Alexandrovich, becomes the president of the club and the club’s administrative staff is almost completely updated. During the 2011/2012 season, changes are taking place in the coaching staff of the team and Samarsky Gennady Leonidovich is invited to the post of head coach. He manages the team and as a result, it takes 5th place in the Championship of Russia among the men's clubs of the Major League.
