Gymnasium Buildings

During the first twenty years, the gymnasium changed addresses several times. First, a two-story house was hired across from the modern Mariinsky Park , owned by Lieutenant General V.V. Gerbel . Then, at different times, the gymnasium was located at 1 Skovorody Street ; on Lutheran street in a two-story brick house of G. I. Kiselevsky ; in the house of M.P. Degteriev and in the house of Kozlov on the corner of Bibikovsky Boulevard (former Taras Shevchenko) and Vladimirskaya Street and other places.

Only in 1856, according to the project of architect P.I. Shleifer on Bibikovsky Boulevard (now Taras Shevchenko Boulevard , 18), a two-story building in the style of late classicism was built for the gymnasium.

Notes

  1. ↑ Nikolai Mikhailovich Grenkov (1806 - after 1861) - brother of the famous old man Ambrose Optinsky ; a graduate of the Tambov Theological Seminary , sent in 1835, before completing the full course at the Main Pedagogical Institute , a mathematics teacher in the Kiev school district . His directorship fell during the period of reforms of the trustee of the Kiev school district N.I. Pirogov , who, having conceived the abolition of punishment with rods , formed a committee, which included, among others, the directors of the 1st and 2nd Kiev gymnasiums: Dellen and Grenkov. Both advocated the preservation of this type of punishment (see Kievan antiquity. - 1900. - No. 6. - P. 304-305).
