Biography
Hotu Matua was the legendary first settler and Ariks of Mau ("supreme commander" or "king") of Easter Island and the ancestor of the Rapanui people. Hotu Matua and his people on two pies arrived on Easter Island from the now unknown land of Khiva (probably the Marquesas Islands ). He landed with his people on the beach of Anaken, and his people spread throughout the island, the descendants of the leader divided him among themselves creating clans. After that, Rapanuyans lived for more than a thousand years in their isolated island house on the southeastern tip of the Polynesian Triangle in the Pacific Ocean.
