Biography

The apothecary's son. From an early age engaged in history, especially domestic. In 1578 he settled in Harlem , where he worked as a notary public . From 1591 - notary in Leiden . Then in The Hague , Rijswijk and Beverwijk , in 1602 he returned to Haarlem.

In 1595 he published the first three books of his work: “Oorsprong, begin ende vervolg der nederlandsche oorlogen” , and in 1601 - the next three books. The Utrecht government gave him access to its archives and asked all citizens to bring to the attention of Bohr everything that has anything to do with the history of the fatherland. All Holland and West Friesland recognized, in the person of Bohr, their historiographer . Received an annuity from the States General of the Netherlands for his works on history.

Under such circumstances, Bohr continued his work and finished it in 1619, writing 37 books (4 tons. Amsterdam, 1679). The work of Bohr is a true and rich in historical source, which is a desktop book for historians to this day.

The author of several plays that were published in 1617. In his history, Bor wrote also about many achievements of the Dutch, such as, for example, the last journey of Willem Barents to Novaya Zemlya .
