Quake, Stephen

Stephen Ronald Quake (born 1969) is an American scientist involved in physics, biology and biotechnology. Professor at Stanford University , a member of the National Academy of Sciences (2013), Engineering (2013) and Medical (2012) Academy of the United States.

Biography

He graduated from Stanford University with degrees of a bachelor of physics and a master of mathematics (both in 1991). Ph.D. degree D.Phil. in theoretical physics received at the University of Oxford in 1994 as a Marshall scholarship holder . Then he returned to Stanford University, where he spent two years as a postdoc in Stephen Chu's group.

Since 1996, the staff of the California Institute of Technology, has reached the position of Professor of Physics Thomas and Doris Everhart Professor of Applied Physics and Physics (since 2004); during his years of work there he received the Career and First awards from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health, was Packard Fellow.

Since 2005, again at Stanford University, now (since 2008), Professor Lee Otterson Professor of Bioengineering, as well as Professor of Applied Physics. From 2006 to 2016, a researcher at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Co-President .

Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2014 [1] ), National Academy of Inventors of the USA, , American American Physical Society.
