Literary work

The main work is an autobiographical novel, Cupronickel Elephant, or The Man Who Thought. The novel was published in 2015 in the Russian literary and artistic magazine Yunost , and in 2016 it was published as a separate book in the Kiev publishing house Kayala . The novel tells about the life of the author in Ukrainian political and spiritual realities. Much attention is paid to the war in the Donbass, described through the prism of philosophical assessments and conclusions of the author. According to Valery Dudarev , editor-in-chief of Yunost magazine, “His view of the world is not journalistic, not literary - he is a young philosopher. In the pages of the novel, Stanislav turns himself inside out, shows the world of a small town, a war that has torn the country in half. By the way, he served in one of the battalions on the side of Kiev. He believed that the idea should be fought. The integrity of Ukraine was such an idea for him. True, after three weeks of service, he was disappointed. He said that in the war there is no idea. He transferred his thoughts to paper, and a profound philosophical work was obtained ” [5] .

Journalism

As a journalist collaborated with the newspaper “ Mirror of the Week ” [6] , the magazine “ Ukrainian Week " [7] and Radio Liberty [8] [2] [3] under the pseudonym Stanislav Vasin.

Spying Detention

In early June 2017, the chief editor of the policy department of the Ukrainian newspaper Zerkalo Nedeli , Sergey Rakhmanin reported that since June 2 Aseev has not been in contact with colleagues, has not answered calls, his whereabouts are unknown, and a search was carried out in his apartment [9] .

On July 16, Aseev’s friend and classmate, former People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yegor Firsov, said that, according to official information from the DGB MGB, the blogger was detained on charges of espionage , which, according to Firsov, Aseev’s mother “gave written confirmation” [10] . On July 5, Firsov stated on his Facebook page that Aseev began a hunger strike to protest [11] .

Human Rights Watch stated that “the DPR authorities must immediately stop the enforced disappearance of Stanislav Aseev, recognizing the fact of his detention and releasing him,” and added that “in accordance with international law, they must also investigate and punish those responsible for this serious crime ". In turn, the director of the Human Rights Watch for Europe and Central Asia, Hugh Williamson, said that “the DPR authorities have not officially recognized the fact of Aseyev’s detention, but we have no doubt that the blogger is in the hands of the DPR security agencies in Donetsk and is detained without communication with the outside world ” [2] .

Amnesty International openly appealed to all those who care to write appeals to the Head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko , the Head of the MGB of the DPR, Vladimir Pavlenko, and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the DPR, Daria Morozova, with a request to release Aseev [12] .

The head of the department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the organization “ Reporters Without Borders ” Johann Bihr called on the DPR rebels to release Aseev [13] .

Arlem Dezir , Representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on Freedom of the Media, said that "the continued illegal detention of Stanislav Aseev is disgusting and cannot be tolerated," because "the journalist has already been held captive for one year, and the lack of access to the journalist only increases fears about his fate ". In addition, he called for his “immediate release for humanitarian reasons and in principle,” and also called for “all OSCE participating States to increase pressure on any relevant actors in Donetsk,” indicating that “all parties with influence in this case should help in the release of Stanislav Assev ” [3] .

Reviews

According to Yegor Firsov , a friend and fellow student of Aseev, a former Ukrainian deputy, he considered it his journalistic duty to remain in Donetsk and objectively describe the events that were taking place: “Not everyone can know what is happening in the territory of occupied Donbass, not everyone can describe the situation that going on there. And Stas could and described ” [8] . Firsov also claims: “Stas is a person who read Kant while still in school. Both teachers and everyone in the group at the university at least considered him one of the best. Or even the best ... He did not support any of the presidents, not a single political party ... It was all below his flight of thought ... ” [14] .

In turn, the director of the Kiev publishing house “Kayala” Tatyana Retivova notes: “He is not interested in either Ukrainian or Russian nationalism , he is outside the dialogue at this level. Aseeva is more interested in the French and German ontology of the twentieth century ” [14] .
