Gleipnir

Gleipnir - in the German-Scandinavian mythology , namely in the " Younger Edda ", a magic chain, which aces bound the wolf-monster Fenrir . In some translations, Gleipnir is called not a chain, but a put.

The creation of Gleipnir was preceded by two unsuccessful attempts to chain Fenrir. At first, the aces made the Leding chain and suggested that Fenrir break it. Fenrir agreed and managed to do it. Then they made the Dromi chain, twice as tightly as Leding, but Fenrir broke it too. Then Odin sent Skirnir, Freyr's messenger, to the gnomes in the country of the black Alfy, who made a chain of the noise of feline footsteps, female beard, mountain roots, bearish veins (in ancient times tendons were attributed to nerve properties), fish voices and bird saliva. All this is no longer in the world. Gleipnir was thin and soft as silk. In the eyes of Fenrir, the aces defiantly tried to break the chain, but without success. Then they began to offer Fenrir to break the chain, asserting that he alone would be able to cope with this. If he does not break the chain, they promised to let him go. Fenrir agreed only on the condition that one of the Ases puts his hand into his mouth to ensure that everything will be without deception. Tyr put his right hand into the mouth of the wolf. The wolf could not break Gleipnir: the more he broke, the stronger the chain hit him in the body. So Fenrir was connected, and Tyr lost his right hand.

The end of the chain, called Helgya, was passed through the Gyöll stone slab and tied to the Tweety stone. Gyöll was buried deep in the ground, and Tweety was even deeper. So that Fenrir could not bite anyone, a sword was inserted into his mouth, the point of which rested against the palate [1] .

According to legend, it will break on the day of Ragnarok .
