Montecito is an unincluded territory in Santa Barbara County, California , located east of the city of Santa Barbara . One of the most prestigious settlements on the west coast, where many celebrities live. [2] [3] The population of the 2010 census is 8965 people. Montecito occupies the eastern part of the coastal plain south of the Santa Ines ridge.

The territory of modern Montecito was previously inhabited by the Chumash Indians. In the middle of the 19th century there was a large concentration of bandits in the area who robbed caravans passing through canyons. By the end of the 1860s, the territory was actively inhabited by Italian immigrants, to whom the area resembled native Italy . Italians pitched a lot here with a garden and farms. By the end of the 19th century, wealthy immigrants from the Midwest began to buy land here, in view of affordable land prices and the availability of nearby hot springs. [4] [5]
