Content
DescriptionThe total length reaches 1.5-1.75 m. The head is rounded, the body is slender, slightly cylindrical, the tail is much shorter than the body. It has a relief pattern of large dark brown or black spots along the back. On the sides there is a series of smaller dark spots. There is a horseshoe-shaped spot at the top of the heads. The ventral side is orange or pink, especially bright in young individuals.
LifestyleInhabits dry, rocky places. Active during the day, feeds on lizards , birds and rodents .
ReproductionThis is an egg laying snake. The female lays up to 15 eggs.
DistributionIt lives in Portugal , southern Spain , in the north of Morocco , Algeria , in Tunisia , on the island of Sardinia .
