Biography
Born January 13, 1334 in Seville . The fifth illegitimate son of King Castile Alfonso XI the Fair and his mistress, Leonor de Guzmán . The twin brother of Enrique, Count of Trastamar (1334–1379), the future king of Castile, Enrique II (1366–1367, 1369–1379).
In 1334, the newborn Fadrique received from his father, King of Castile Alfonso XI, Senoria de Aro . In 1342, after the death of his maternal uncle, Alonso Melendez de Guzmán, 24th Master of the Order of Santiago (1338–1342), the eight-year-old infantry Fadrique of Castile was elected the new Master of the Order of Santiago . In 1345, Fadrique’s younger brother, infantry (1334–1350) became the new senor de Aro.
On March 26, 1350, during the siege of Gibraltar , the king of Castile Alfonso XI , father of Fadrique, died of a plague . The legitimate 16-year-old son, Pedro I the Cruel (1334–1369), who reigned in 1350–1366, 1367–1369, entered the royal throne of Castile. Leonor de Guzmán (mother of Fadrique) was arrested by order of the new king, imprisoned and executed in Talavera in 1351 . After the death of his mother Enrique, Count de Trastamara , and his brothers Fadrique, Tello and Sancho against the authority of their half-brother, King of Castile Pedro I the Cruel. Each of the four brothers revolted in their tribal possessions. Through threats and diplomacy, the king of Castile Pedro I the Cruel was able to achieve fidelity and a temporary truce with his half-brothers. But the truce did not last long. In 1353, Fadrique was appointed royal emissary to France, from where he accompanied Blanca de Bourbon (1339–1361), the bride of King Pedro the Cruel.
In 1354, the infantry Fadrique of Castile was appointed King Pedro the Cruel Guardian ( Adelantado ) on the border with Portugal. Here he, along with his twin brother Enrique, again rebelled against the royal power, entering into negotiations with , a former favorite of King Pedro the Cruel , who was in royal disgrace. Enrique, Count of Trastamar, turned for help to the king of France in the fight against Pedro. A second rebellion broke out against the despotic power of Pedro the Cruel. The uprising was attended by residents of Toledo , who turned to Fadric for help. He came to their aid with a detachment of 700 soldiers.
Through the mediation of Juan Fernandez de Henestros, uncle , the favorite of Pedro, the king reconciled for the second time with his half-brother Fadrique and invited him to take a position in the government. Pedro even invited Fadrique to Seville on the pretext of turning to him for advice.
On May 29, 1358, in Seville, the infantry Fadrique was captured and killed by order of King Pedro the Cruel . His body was buried in Seville Cathedral . In 1579, his remains were transferred to the crypt of the royal chapel of Seville Cathedral.
Infant Fadrique of Castile was the ancestor of the House of Enriques , Admiral of Castile and the Dukes of Medina de Rioseco . One of his descendants, Juan Enriques (1425-1468), became the second wife of King Juan II of Aragon and the mother of King Ferdinand II of Catholic .
