History
In October 1951, countries established official diplomatic relations. In May 1983, the first agreement between the countries was signed, after which state visits at a high level began [1] [2] . On July 19, 2002, Argentina and Pakistan signed an agreement on bilateral trade and cooperation. [3] In 2004, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf visited Argentina in order to enhance economic and political contacts between the countries [4] . Pervez Musharraf met with the President of Argentina, and then spoke to the Argentine Council on Foreign Relations, talking about plans for further cooperation on issues of mutual interest at the UN and strengthening economic and political ties between the countries [5] . In March 2012, the Government of Argentina invited the Ambassador of Pakistan, Naela Chohan , as the main guest to the ceremony in Buenos Aires , dedicated to the 60th anniversary of friendship between the countries [6] [7] [8] .
Argentina supports the position of Pakistan on the right of peoples to self-determination, which was discussed at a session of the United Nations General Assembly [9] [10] . Pakistan voted in favor of a UN resolution which stated that the continued existence of colonialism is incompatible with the ideal of world peace, which is related to the issue of the Falkland Islands . Argentina and Pakistan also share common views on UN reform and on the expansion of the UN Security Council . The chairman of the Senate of Pakistan said that between the countries very close cooperation was established in various fields and there was a similar opinion on major international issues [11] .
In 2012, Pakistan Square was presented to the public at Tre de Febrero Park in Palermo . On July 27, 2012, the opening of the square was attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan, Naela Chohan, and the Minister of the Environment and Recreation Areas of the Buenos Aires Administration, Diego Santilli, in honor of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the states [12] [12] [13] [12] [14] .
Trade
The countries have established trade relations, a joint economic committee and the Pakistan-Argentine Business Council are functioning [15] [16] . Among the common interests are the development of agriculture, especially the fight against livestock diseases [17] [18] [19] . The ambassador of Argentina to Pakistan stated that countries are exploring new areas in which they can intensify cooperation, in particular the increase in wheat imports from Argentina [20] . The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Islamabad agreed with the Ambassador of Argentina and emphasized the need for further official development of economic relations [21] . Argentine companies have also expressed interest in exploring and developing gas fields in the Pakistani provinces of Balochistan and Sindh [22] .
