History

The age of today's Gorky Street, even according to conservative estimates, has exceeded 250 years. Myasnitskaya street began to form at the end of the XVII century. In those days, the main market of Ryazan was located in the area of the modern square of 26 Baku Commissars , on the right bank of the Lybedi River. At that time it was forbidden to open merchant shops in private houses. And all the trading people, by hook or by crook, tried, if not to acquire housing near the bazaar, then at least rent it. And then the city authorities acted quite reasonably, allowing it to be done primarily by those who traded in noble goods. The meat was not included in the list of such products. And the meat traders concentrated their main stay a little at a distance - in the area of today's central Ryazan market, next to the Lybedy riverbed.

At the end of the XVIII century, the market moved to Khlebnaya, later - Novobazar Square (now - Lenin Square ). And in the immediate vicinity of the new bazaar there were meat rows. But along the entire length of Myasnitskaya Street, right up to the intersection with Ryazhskaya Street (now Yesenina Street ), the meat traders themselves lived, who were engaged in raising and buying livestock. In addition to the butchers, numerous craftsmen families lived on the street: blacksmiths, masons, carpenters, joiners, coopers and glaziers.

On Myasnitskaya Street, one-story wooden houses prevailed. In most yards, in addition to cattle pens and farm buildings, there were orchards with apple trees, pears, cherries and plums. On a partially paved cobblestone street with sidewalks to the floodplain meadows of Trubezh and Oka, shepherds chased cows and sheep, carts pulled by horses moved.

In close proximity to Novobazarnaya Square, Myasnitskaya was illuminated by kerosene lamps located on wooden poles. And on the site after crossing the Vvedenskaya street, lampposts appeared only during the Soviet era, when there was a general supply of electricity to the city blocks.

Since 1870, at the corner of Myasnitskaya and Malshinskaya (Gorky and Liberty) streets, the Mariinsky Gymnasium was located. The gymnasium was formed from the first-grade female primary school, founded in 1858. The estate and a spacious two-story stone building for the school were bought, repaired and presented to the city by the Ryazan philanthropist N.G. Ryumin in 1859. He became the first honorary trustee of the female school. The Mariinsky Gymnasium was a prestigious educational institution in Ryazan, with its contingent, dynasties and traditions. When assigning girls to the gymnasium, among other documents and recommendations, a “formulary list of service” of the parent was required. It reported religion, family tree, whether there was a property where the parent studied, career changes, rewards, whether he was on a “campaign against the enemy”, whether he was suspected and limited by the court, whether he was retired, and finally, the size of the annual salary, and others family budget sources. The Mariinsky Gymnasium for women was closed after 1917. From 1918 to 1966, the building housed secondary school No. 19 of Ryazan. Currently, the Ryazan Teachers College is located there.

In 1908, on Myasnitskaya Street, next to the Mariinsky Gymnasium, the daughter of the Zemstvo doctor Vera Pavlovna Ekimetskaya built a building for a female gymnasium. Prior to this, the gymnasium occupied the rented premises. It was a three-story brick building with large offices, high ceilings, wide stairs. There was a physical class that was well equipped at that time, its own observatory, a two-light gym, water heating.

After 1917, the gymnasium was closed. The Youth House settled in the building, later - the first Soviet school named after M. Gorky. During the Great Patriotic War, a school for wounded soldiers worked at the school. Since 1946, a female school was located there, then a polytechnic. Currently - secondary school number 1 named after V.P. Ekimetskaya.

Now almost all the construction of the site from the beginning of Gorky Street to its intersection with Vvedenskaya is multi-storey buildings built during the period when Ryazan began to expand rapidly in the late 50s and early 60s of the last century.
