Estoril (circuit)

Circuit Estoril ( port. Autódromo do Estoril ) - a race track located in Portugal , where the Portuguese Grand Prix was held in 1984 - 1996 . The official name is Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva .

Estoril race track was built in 1972 on a mountain plateau near the town of Estoril . The track consists of a long straight line and two periodically changing complexes of turns (the configuration of the circuit resembles the Catalunya track).

In the first years after the opening, club races and competitions in the Formula 2 class were held at the circuit. But in 1984 , the official Formula 1 Grand Prix returned to Portugal precisely at the Estoril circuit. In the very first Portuguese stage after the break, ending the championship, the fate of the title was decided - Alain Prost won the race, but lost half a point in the championship to Nicky Laude .

In 1996 , Estoril held the last Grand Prix of the “first Formula”, as the organizers could not solve the problems with increased security requirements.

In 1995, 1996, the ITC away stages took place on the highway, and after the revival, in 2004. here was the DTM stage.

At the moment, there are many races in junior formulas and MotoGP competitions at the racetrack. In 2005 , Estoril hosted the A1 Series stage, won by the French team.
