Description
Crocus is known in Greece and abroad for the production of Greco-Macedonian saffron , which is one of the most valuable varieties.
Ancient Minoans cultivated saffron from the Late Bronze Age on Crete . The city of Krokos is the main base of saffron producers, with a cooperative of 2,000 participants from 40 villages. The annual production volume ranges from 6 to 12 tons of pure red saffron per year.
