Biography

The son of a merchant. Relative of the poet H.F. Weiss . For 4 years he studied commerce. Later, he studied pedagogy, literature and law at the University of Leipzig .

In 1780, Junger became a doctor of law. Having settled in Leipzig, he took up tutoring , literary activities and translations from English and French. At the same time, he made acquaintance with the famous publisher Georg Joachim Göschen , who, in turn, introduced him to Friedrich Schiller in 1785. Together with Schiller, Körner and actor Johann Friedrich Reinecke Junger spent the summer of 1785 in the village of Golis near Leipzig. [1] After Schiller left for Dresden in the autumn of that year, their friendly alliance, however, broke up.

In 1785 he met Frederick Schiller , with whom Christian Körner spent a lot of time.

In 1787, Junger went to Vienna with the intention of succeeding in drama. After several unsuccessful attempts, he was accepted into the troupe of the Vienna Palace Theater (Burgtheater) under the direction of Johann Franz Brockmann . After the Burgtheater faced financial difficulties a few years later, the director and director Brockman was replaced by the board of directors and, among other things, fired Junger.

Since that time, Junger lived in very poor conditions and did not publish anything else. In addition to his vision problems, he probably suffered from severe depression.

In 1797, Johann Friedrich Junger died of a nervous fever .
