Catholic church of Peter and Paul - a religious building in Lviv ( Ukraine ), an architectural monument. Located in the historic district of Lychakiv , on the street. Lychakivska , 82a.
The Roman Catholic Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built on the Glinyanskaya road (modern Lychakivskaya street) in 1668 (according to the historian Ivan Kripyakevich - in 1660 ). In 1750 he was transferred to the monastic order of the Pauline , who rebuilt the building in the Baroque style and built a monastery here; in 1784 (according to I. Kripyakevich - in 1786 ) the Austrian authorities gave the building to the Uniates . The modern name is the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul .
The small one-nave building did not preserve the original appearance, which was leveled by the restructuring of the XVIII century . The narthex with a bell tower on it was built in 1798 according to the design of K. Fessinger. In the niches of the narthex were the frescoes of L. Dolinsky, erased by later redraws.
On August 19, 1989, the rector of the church, Vladimir Yarema (1915–2000), announced his transfer to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church . In 1993, he became the patriarch of the UAOC, adopting the name Demetrius. In 2000, buried in the courtyard of the temple.
Not far from the church of Peter and Paul, on Lychakivs'ka Street, No. 91, from the 1990s there is the Diocesan Administration of the UAOC.
