Career
On February 20, 1997 he made his debut in the professional ring by defeating Alfred Mgarombu on points, for whom this fight was the only one in the professional ring. Then he spent nine more fights, two of which he lost. Then, on December 31, 1999, his first title fight for the vacant champion title in the African Boxing Union ( English Boxing Union ) in the second bantamweight title was held, Mtagwa defeated his opponent by knockout and won the title. USBA won the vacant lightweight champion title on July 8, 2005, defended the title three times on June 16, August 2, and November 10, 2006, and lost the title as a result of the latter defense.
On October 10, 2009, he held a bout for the WBO World Championship title (fourth prestigious boxing organization) in the bantamweight title against the undefeated Puerto Rican boxer Juan Munuel Lopez (26-0), but lost to him by a unanimous decision. The next fight of Mtagwa was held on January 23, 2010 for the WBA world champion title (second most prestigious boxing organization) in the featherweight title against Cuban boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa , and ended in a second knockout victory for Gamboa by technical knockout. Then he had a duel against the Mexican Pedro Navarret, over which he managed to defeat by technical knockout in the 8th round. After this fight, on September 15, 2011, he again entered the ring in the status of a contender for the world featherweight title, this time according to the WBC . His opponent was the Mexican boxer Johnny Gonzalez (49-6). The fight ended in the second round with a Mexican victory by technical knockout. After this fight, Mtagwa spent still took a break in his career for two and a half years. February 21, 2014 returned to the ring. After returning, he spent two fights in which he lost. In total, during the professional career, Roger Mtava spent 47 fights, won 27 (27 times ahead of schedule). Lost 17 times, the final draw was 2 matches and one fight was declared not held.
