Format
The format of the 2018 drawing was changed due to the low attendance of matches in which the national team of the home team is not involved. Nine teams with the highest rating will automatically qualify for the final tournament, while teams with 10th and 11th rank will play in the two-game qualification. In the final tournament, 10 teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each and will play home and away games in a round-robin system. The format of playoff games remained unchanged.
Qualification
Of the 12 countries participating in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) , 11 were admitted to the rally. The Australian Football Federation did not apply to participate in the tournament. The 9 strongest AFF- rated teams were allowed to enter the final tournament directly, and the two weakest teams in the region (the teams of Brunei and East Timor ) played two qualifying matches between themselves, the winner of which also qualified for the final of the championship.
