Biography
Born November 10, 1951.
In 1974, he graduated from the Biological and Soil Faculty of Moscow State University .
Since 1982 - works at the Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamalei , Director (since 1997).
Since 2000 - Head of the Department of Infectology of the Medical and Preventive Faculty of Postgraduate Professional Education of the Moscow Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy .
In 2000, he was elected a corresponding member, and in 2004, an academician of the RAMS .
In 2013, he became an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (as part of the accession of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences).
Scientific activity
Specialist in the field of molecular biology of pathogenic microorganisms.
He put forward and substantiated the proposition that the genes of pathogenicity factors are part of mobile genetic elements.
He formulated a concept according to which one of the mechanisms that enable sapronosis pathogens to form endemic natural foci is the ability of pathogenic bacteria to remain in environmental objects during interepidemic periods in an uncultured state.
Member of the editorial boards of leading Russian journals in medical microbiology: ZhMEI and Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Virology.
Member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Society of Microbiologists and Epidemiologists named after I. I. Mechnikov.
