Biography
One of the two sons of the nobleman Hofre Gil de Borch and Eskriva (1390-1437) and Isabelle de Borja and Llanisol (1390-1468), the younger brother of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, the future Pope Alexander VI . Despite the fact that Pedro Luis de Borja was not a priest, shortly after the election of his uncle Alonso de Borja as the new pope, he received a number of posts and titles. In the spring of 1456, Pedro Luis de Borja was appointed captain-general of the Church and keeper of the castle of Sant'Angelo . In the fall of the same year, he became governor of the cities of Terni , Narni , Todi , Rieti , Orvieto , Spoleto , Foligno , Nocher, Assisi , Amelia , Civita-Castellana and Nepi . In early 1457, he received the post of governor of the Papal Region and Tuscany . At the same time, his elder brother, Rodrigo Borgia , became a cardinal deacon , commander in chief of the papal forces and vice chancellor of the Holy Roman Church , and another relative, Luis Juan del Mila and Borja , became a member of the Cardinals Council. This rapid promotion of the young relatives of the Pope, the Spaniard Kallikst III , was criticized by many old cardinals (for example, Domenico Kapranik ) and the xenophobic opposition from the Roman population. The Orsini family opposed the rise of Borgia . Their hostility towards Borgia increased when Pedro Luis de Borja was sent by the pope to restore church authority over some of the fortresses belonging to Orsini . On August 19, 1457, Pedro Luis de Borja was appointed Prefect of Rome . In contrast to the house of Orsini, Pope Calixtus III became close to the house of Colonna, the enemy of Orsini . The marriage project of Pedro Luis de Borch with a representative of the house of Colonna was never implemented.
Don Pedro Luis de Borja was hated by the Romans, since almost all the relatives and allies of Pope Calixtus III were called "Catalans" because of their Spanish origin. On August 6, 1458 , on the day when his uncle Calixtus III passed away, he had to flee Rome , where an uprising broke out against the “Catalans”. 26-year-old Pedro Luis de Borja died in Civitavecchia , abandoned by almost all of his associates.
