Lucy Jane Askew ( born Lucy Jane Askew ; September 8, 1883 - December 9, 1997 ) was a British long-lived woman who was the oldest living person in Europe since the death of Jeanne Kalman on August 4, 1997 until her death on December 9 of the same year, at the age of 114 years and 92 days.

Biography
Lucy was born in Lawton , Essex . Her parents were Arthur George Askew and Susan Elizabeth Askew (née Ellis), who were landowners. Lucy had five more brothers and sisters, all of whom she survived, although one of them (her younger brother Frank) lived to 100.
Askew never married and was a devout Christian. Lucy moved to a nursing home when she was 106 years old and survived leg surgery at 108. She was in good health shortly before her death. Askew explained her longevity to a modest lifestyle.
She died in a dream on December 9, 1997.
Askew was the last person born in 1883.
