History
The history of A.O. Frotex cotton spinning factory began in the middle of the 19th century, when in 1845 Samuel Frankel built a linen fabric factory on the territory of today's Frotex. Soon, his company bought a competitor - a bankrupt factory, becoming a monopolist in the entire region [1] .
In 1903, the production of fabrics and terry towels (such as "frotte") began. The dynamic development of the factory, whose products were known in the German, English, French and American markets, was interrupted by World War I. In 1938, on the basis of the Nuremberg laws, the company was taken from the heirs of S. Frankel, and they themselves were forced to emigrate [2] .
After the end of World War II, the restoration of the destroyed factory began, completed in 1949. Since then, already within the borders of Poland, a long period of restoration of the long-standing greatness of the company began [3] .
In 1965, the factory was named Zakłady Przemysłu Bawełnianego “Frotex” im. Powstańców Śląskich .
Another interesting period was 1992, when numerous organizational and technological changes began - the modernization of the spinning mill, dyeing plant, the launch of the most modern production line for plain towels, and a treatment plant was also opened. In the same year, Frotex was reorganized into the State Treasury Society.
In 1995, Frotex was included in the General Privatization program and became part of the II National Investment Fund [4] .
In 2002, the management of II NIF decided to sell the predominant stake to Frotex Management, which currently owns 72% of the company’s shares [5] .
