Zanzibar Revolutionary Government The revolutionary government of Zanzibar consists of the Revolutionary Council and the House of Representatives of Zanzibar. The head of government is the president of Zanzibar, who is also the chairman of the Revolutionary Council, currently Ali Mohammed Shane .
History
After the formation of Tanzania, Zanzibar retained the regional government - the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Legislative and executive power is vested in the Zanzibar Revolutionary Council , consisting of a president (who is the head of government), two vice presidents and government ministers (in addition, the president can appoint additional board members without ministerial powers ) [1] . The revolutionary council has advisory functions under the president.
In addition, since 1980, Zanzibar has had its own parliament - the House of Representatives of Zanzibar - which shares the legislative power with the Revolutionary Council. The House of Representatives has a total of 81 members. 50 deputies are elected by direct vote in single-member districts using a simple majority, 10 are appointed by the president, 20 seats are reserved for women and filled on a party basis, and the last place is reserved for the prosecutor general of the region. In addition, if the speaker of parliament is not one of the deputies, he becomes an additional 82 member of the House of Representatives [2] .
