Biography
Tin worker [3] . Participated in the labor movement in Germany and Austria. Returning to Hungary, in 1884 he joined the Hungarian General Workers Party (VRW, Magyarországi Általános Munkáspárt ), in which he led the revolutionary wing and edited its German-language publication.
In September 1889, the Second International authorized the replacement of Antal Irlinger, who was convicted of opportunism and alcoholism, as the leader of the previous VRW leader. Engelman corresponded with Friedrich Engels , who gave him advice on political activities. As a result of the organizational work led by Engelman on December 7, 1890, an SDPV was created on the basis of the RPW.
In January 1893, at the congress of the Social Democratic Party, under pressure from the reformist wing, he was withdrawn from the party leadership and expelled from its ranks [4] . In the same year he founded the newspaper "Worker" ("A Munkás"). In January 1894 he participated with like-minded people in the establishment of the Social Democratic Labor Party of Hungary ( Magyarországi Szociáldemokrata Munkáspárt ), but in May 1894 he reunited his party with the Social Democratic Party. He participated in the work of the newspapers Neues Plotisches Volksblatt and Arbeiter Zeitungnak.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Engelmann adjoined the left wing of the SDPV. In his journalistic activities, especially after 1905, he was inclined to bourgeois radicalism. He spoke with articles on the socialist movement in the working newspapers and newspapers of the bourgeois opposition of Budapest, Vienna, Berlin
