Allan V. Cox ( Allan Verne Cox ; December 17, 1926, Santa Ana, California - January 27, 1987, Palo Alto, California) - American geophysicist. Professor at Stanford University, member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (1969 [2] ) and the American Philosophical Society (1984).

Biography
He received a Ph.D. in 1959. In 1967, he moved from the US Geological Survey to the Department of Geophysics at Stanford University, where in 1979 he became dean of the School of Earth Sciences. Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1974). In 1978-1980 President of the American Geophysical Union.

The author of more than a hundred scientific papers, two books.
