Men's long jump at the 2018 European Athletics Championships was held on August 6 and 8 in Berlin at the Olympic Stadium .
The current European long jump champion was Greg Rutherford of Great Britain . He did not defend his title due to insufficient preparedness due to injuries; In the summer of 2018, Rutherford announced the completion of a sports career [1] .
The leader of the European season Alexander Menkov did not receive permission from the European Athletics Association to participate in the European Championship as a neutral athlete. He also did not have the opportunity to participate in the national team due to the removal of Russian athletes from international starts due to a doping scandal .

Final
The main competition in men's long jump was held on August 8, 2018 [5] . The first jump in 8 meters was successful for the competition owner Fabian Heinle , who landed 8.13 m in the second attempt. Soon the Ukrainian Sergey Nikiforov repeated this result and took the lead in additional indicators. However, both of them in the fifth round of the competition were ahead of Miltiadis Tentoglu , who jumped 8.25 m. He became the first European champion in the long jump in the history of Greece. At the time of the final, Tentoglu was only 20 years old - at the same young age, only Igor Ter-Hovhannisyan won gold in this discipline in 1958 .
During the competition, athletes several times expressed dissatisfaction with the measurement of their attempts, believing that the judges make significant inaccuracies. After the final, official protests were filed by silver medalist Fabian Heinle and Michelle Thorneus , who took seventh place, but they did not affect the final arrangement of the participants [6] .
