The fountain complex “Years of War” is the most voluminous fountain in Moscow , in which 15 thousand m³ of water circulate simultaneously [1] . Located on the eponymous alley of Victory Park , stretches from the wall on Poklonnaya Hill to the Arc de Triomphe [2] . This is one of the places where the mayor of Moscow announces the beginning of the fountain season [3] .

The opening of the fountain took place in 1995 and was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II [4] . The complex consists of 15 bowls, each - 15 vertical jets. Their total number - 225 - symbolizes the weeks during which the war lasted. Because of the bright scarlet illumination in the dark, these fountains are called “bloody” [3] . Previously, the backlight was equipped with halogen lamps , which led to high energy costs. For 2018, the lamps are completely replaced by LED [4] . In 2008, Rossiyskaya Gazeta awarded the fountain the title of “Most Patriotic” [5] . And ten years later, the complex “Years of War” claimed the title of “The Most Interesting Place in Moscow” [6] .

On the outskirts of the park, a water treatment station is equipped, which collects water from fountains, purifies it and returns it back [7] . The state of the complex is monitored by the Gormost bridge and embankment trust. Water change occurs up to seven times a month. During drainage, the bowls are cleaned with special tools. Workers spend about a day on this procedure [8] . In 2013, Komsomolskaya Pravda journalists and experts discovered E. coli in a water sample [9] . Swimming in the fountain and drinking from it is prohibited [10] .

At the end of 2017, during the winter holidays, figures of glowing in the dark waltz couples, which reached five meters, were installed above the fountain bowls [11] .
