Andech, Davidson

Davidson Andeh ( born Davidson Andeh ; b. January 17, 1958 , Lagos ) - Nigerian boxer , representative of several weight categories from the first to the lightest to the lightest. He played for the Nigeria boxing team in the mid-1970s, world champion, silver medalist of the African Championship, winner and medalist of many tournaments of international importance. In the period 1980-1987, also boxed on a professional level, owned the title of champion of the African Boxing Union.

Biography

Davidson Andech was born on January 17, 1958 in Lagos , Nigeria .

Amateur career

He achieved the first serious success at the international level in the 1974 season when he joined the main team of the Nigerian national team and visited the African Championship in Kampala, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the first lightweight category - in the decisive final point match he lost to the Kenyan Stephen Muchocky . Also this season he performed at the first world boxing championship in Havana , where he was knocked out by the Soviet boxer Yevgeny Yudin in the 1/8 final.

In 1976, he won the silver medal at the international TSC tournament in East Berlin, losing in the final to the representative of the USSR Gennady Sakulin . He was supposed to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympics in Montreal , but Nigeria at the last moment boycotted these competitions for political reasons [1] .

Andekh achieved the greatest success in his sports career in the 1978 season, overcoming all opponents in light weight at the world championship in Belgrade , including in the final, took over the Soviet boxer Vladimir Sorokin , and thereby winning the gold medal [2] .

Professional career

After leaving the location of the Nigerian team, in January 1980, Davidson Andech successfully made his debut on a professional level. Over the following years, he won a total of 16 victories in a row, won the Nigerian champion title in the lightweight category, became the champion of the African Boxing Union.

The first professional career suffered a defeat in September 1983 in the United States, was knocked out here by undefeated American Alvin Hayes.

In March 1984, he challenged the title of Commonwealth Lightweight Champion, but lost by knockout to current champion Claude Noel.

Having suffered three defeats in a row, in 1987 he decided to end his career as a professional boxer.
