Bernd Wittenburg ( him. Bernd Wittenburg ; genus. April 1, 1950 , Neukloster ) - East German boxer , a representative of the middle weight class. Biography

Bernd Wittenburg was born on April 1, 1950 in Neukloster , GDR . He was trained in Berlin in the capital's sports club "Dynamo".

First declared himself in 1970, winning the international youth tournament "Friendship" in Bulgaria.

In 1971 he became the bronze medalist at the GDR Championship in the middle weight category, received the bronze at the home international TSC tournaments in Berlin and the Chemistry Cup in Halle.

In the 1972 GDR Championship, he defeated all middleweight rivals and won the gold medal there. Subsequently, he retained this title for five years [1] .

Having established itself in the main team of the East German national team, in 1974 Wittenburg visited the first world boxing championship in Havana , from where he brought the bronze dignity award - at the semifinals stage he was knocked out by the Soviet boxer Rufat Riskiev in the first round.

In 1975, he became the silver medalist of the European Championship in Katowice , losing in the decisive final match to another USSR representative Vyacheslav Lemeshev .

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal - in the category up to 75 kg the first opponent in the tournament grid successfully passed, while in the second fight at the 1/16 final stage 2: 3 was defeated by Cuban Luis Felipe Martinez .

After the Montreal Olympics, Wittenburg remained in the main boxing team of the GDR for some time and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 1977, he won a silver medal at the European Championships in Halle , losing the final match to the Soviet boxer Leonid Shaposhnikov [2] .
