25th battalion of schutzmannschaft

Formed in March 1942 in Liepaja from Latvian volunteers. The battalion consisted of three companies of a three-platoon composition. The initial strength is 466 people (15 officers, 62 junior commanders, 389 schutzmanns). Armament - rifles. In addition, there were 1-2 machine guns per company. The uniform is the Latvian form. The insignia is Latvian. Command: German surveillance officer - guard police guard Mev, battalion commander: battalionführer Aluto, from June 1942 - battalionführer Pliskausis, first company commander - Zugführer Zemgals, second company - Zugführer Jaunlinis, third company - Zugführer ^{1 ]} .

July 1, 1942 the battalion was sent to Ukraine - by train to Korosten , and from there on foot march to Ovruch . There, the staff continued training. In September, the battalion began to serve. The forces of the battalion were divided as follows: Headquarters of the battalion and the third company - Ovruch; two platoons of the first company - Skorodnoye, the third platoon - Yelsk; two platoons of the second company - Lelchitsy, the third company - Buinovichi.

In November, partisans destroyed one of the platoons of the first company. Only one person survived. In total, at that moment in the battalion there were 422 personnel ^[3] .

In January 1943, the battalion was re-equipped with a German field police uniform. Chevron of Latvian colors showed nationality.

On May 5, 1943, the 17th Latvian battalion of the Vidzeme schutzmannsafa was poured into the battalion. In battles with partisans, the combined unit suffered heavy losses. Dissatisfaction was ripening among the personnel, and in the end the German command was given the demand to transfer the battalion to the "Latvian Legion". In December 1943, the battalion was redeployed to Latvia, where in January 1944 it joined the 2nd Liepāja Police Regiment ^[2] .
