Fara, Giovanni Francesco

Giovanni Francesco Fara ( Italian: Giovanni Francesco Fara ; February 4, 1543 , Sassari - 1591 , Bosa ) - an outstanding Sardinian historian , prose writer , geographer , humanist of the XVI century , clergyman , bishop of Bosa . The doctor is both right . It is considered the "father of the history of Sardinia."

Biography

Born in a noble family of the city of Bosa . His father was a solicitor . He received his primary education in Sardinia, then moved to Pisa . He studied law and philosophy at the Royal Spanish College (Collegio di Spagna) in Bologna . I listened to the lectures of the famous historian Camillo Porzio . Returning to Pisa, in 1567 received a doctorate in both rights . In the same year he published in Florence a treatise De essentia infantis in Latin, the only work that has survived to this day.

He collected information for his works in Pisa, Florence, Bologna and Rome .

In 1568 he returned to Sassari , where he became archpriest of the local church. Later, he held important church posts, in 1591 he was appointed Bishop of Bosa .

He died the same year.

His large library was donated to the University of Cagliari .
