Final
The main competition in the men's pole vault took place on August 12, 2018 [4] . In terms of the results shown, the tournament has become one of the strongest disciplines in history. At a height of 6 meters, four people attempted; at a height of 6.05 m, three people.
The champion was the 18-year-old Armand Duplantis from Sweden, who three times during the tournament improved his own junior world record and the record of Sweden - first 5.95 m, then 6.00 m and 6.05 m, all heights - on the first attempt. The winning result of 6.05 meters was also a new record for the European Championships and the best result of the season in the world. Duplantis ranked fourth in the list of the strongest pole vaulters in world history: only Renault Lavilleni (6.16 m), Sergei Bubka (6.15 m) and Steve Hooker (6.06 m) jumped higher. At 18 years, 275 days, he became the youngest pole jumper, who conquered the 6-meter line, and the first junior. Before this achievement belonged to Bubka, who for the first time took 6 meters at 21 221 days.
Timur Morgunov , who acted as a neutral athlete, was able to make a serious competition to Dupantis. He took most of the heights on the first attempt, thanks to which he was constantly among the leaders. Having overcome 6.00 m, 22-year-old Morgunov set a new Russian record among young people. He couldn’t conquer 6.05 meters. He became only the fourth person in history who failed to win the competition with a 6 meter jump. Reno Lavilleni repeated his best result of the season, but remained third. Only the second time in the history of the pole vault jump of 5.95 meters brought only a bronze medal [5] [6] .
Pole Peter Lysek set a high personal record of 5.90 m, but remained in fourth place. 19-year-old Sondre Guttormsen broke Norway's record (5.75 m) and finished sixth.
