The mausoleum is located in the historical center of Samarkand, in the so-called old city, on the southern border of the ancient settlement Afrasiab , a few meters east of the Hazret-Khizr mosque , at the main entrance to the Khazret-Khizr cemetery - one of the oldest cemeteries in the city. 170 meters to the north-east of the Makhsumbobo mausoleum, in the territory of the Khazret-Khizr cemetery is the Mausoleum of Nuriddin Basir .

The building of the mausoleum is built of burnt bricks on a special waterproof solution, and therefore it remains intact to this day. The main entrance of the mausoleum faces southeast. The building is one-story and two-chamber, consists of a square gurkhana (tomb) and a rectangular chillahana (special cell). These two rooms are connected through an arched opening located in the center of the separation wall. Each of these two rooms is covered by separate domes. The space of the tomb is raised above the space of a special cell with the help of a quadrangle on which a dome is erected. The smooth transition from the quadrangle to the octagon and to the dome is carried out by the so-called longline-sailing method.

Together with other architectural, archaeological, religious and cultural monuments, Samarkand is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name “Samarkand - Crossroads of Cultures”.
