Biography
Early life
Janice Elaine Maxwell was born on November 20, 1956 in Fargo ( North Dakota , USA ), becoming the fifth child of six in the family of the former first district judge Rafe B. Maxwell (1919–2014), who served in North Dakota from 1967 to 1978 [4] , and his wife, Elizabeth Maxwell (nee Fargesson; 1926–2015) [5] , who later became a lawyer at the US Environmental Protection Agency . She graduated from West Fargo High School , the University of Utah and the Moorhead University of Minnesota [6] .
In 1973, she starred as Beda Jane in the school play for Deadwood Dick.
Career
She was a five-time nominee for the Tony Award and a two-time winner of the Drama Desk Award. During her career, which spans over thirty years, Maxwell has become one of the most famous and critically acclaimed theater actresses of her time.
Maxwell's Broadway debut took place in 1989 in the musical “ City of Angels ”.
Maxwell has appeared in such films and television series as “ My name is Michael ” with James Franco , “Billy and Billy” by Neil Labuette (2014–15), “ Separation ” (2014), “The Good Wife ” (2014) and “ Gossip Girl ” ( 2009-2011). From 1994 to 2003, she played in four episodes of the NBC drama " Law and Order ", each time in different roles.
Personal life and death
Maxwell was married to actor and playwright Robert Emmett Lanny [7] , of whom she had one son, William Maxwell-Lanny [8] .
In 2005, Maxwell was diagnosed with breast cancer . She died on February 11, 2018 of neoplastic meningitis caused by the disease, at her home in Manhattan at the age of 62 [9] [10] [11] .
