Biography and career
Shan Samantha Blake was born in September 1972 in Walthamstow ( London , England , UK ) in the family of Jamaican Cornell Lloyd Blake (1935-1990, died of myocardial infarction) and Lindell “Pansy” Blake, who divorced when she was six years old [3] . She was the youngest of three children in the family, has a sister Ava (born 1964) and a brother Roger. She got her first role in 1994, playing a girl suffering from bulimia in the Christmas episode of " Accident " this year [3] .
After working as a secretary in surgery, Blake got her most famous role, soul singer Frankie Pierre , in the soap opera " Residents of the East End ", in which she starred from 1996 to 1997. She initially auditioned for a small role as a nurse, but was invited to audition for a longer-term role as Frankie after she impressed the producers of the series. At first she signed a six-month contract, but subsequently it was extended [4] .
After leaving the series, Blake continued to appear on television, including in the TV series Doctors , Purely English Murder , and Skins before leaving the profession. She later became a sign language teacher and translator [5] [3] [6] .
In addition to television and film, Blake also appeared and directed several theater productions. She starred in the productions of Joe Guy, The Fruitless Efforts of Love , and Twelfth Night , and directed Oxford Street at the Soho Theater and Burial at the Almeida Theater. [3]
She had two sons, Zachary Bilal Kent-Simpson (2007-2015) and Amon Ben George Kent-Simpson (2011-2015), from Arthur Simpson-Kent. On December 11, 2015, Blake was diagnosed with motor neuronal disease in the terminal stage after the first manifestation of neurological symptoms in September 2013 [2] .
Blake and her two children went missing December 16, 2015 [5] [7] [8] ; three weeks later, their bodies were discovered at Blake’s house in Erit, London. Her partner, Arthur Simpson-Kent, pleaded guilty to the killings and received a life sentence in October 2016. [9]
