Biography
Full name: Takiyuddin Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Mustafa ibn Ismail ibn Yusuf al-Nabhani. Born in 1909 in the village of Ijzim, Wilayet, Beirut, 19.5 km south of Haifa (now Israel ).
In childhood, he was taught Islam by his father, a Shari'a teacher. By the age of 13, Nabhani knew the Koran by heart . He also studied at a school in his village, and then in the city of Acre .
Since 1927, Nabhani continued his studies in high school at the University of Al-Azhar in Cairo ( Kingdom of Egypt ), and then at the university itself. He also studied at the institute "Darul-Ulyum" at the university and graduated in 1932.
After studying, Nabhani returned to Palestine and began working as a teacher in Haifa. In 1940, he was appointed by the mandate authorities as an assistant judge, and in 1945, as a judge of the Sharia court in Ramallah .
In 1948, due to the Arab-Israeli war, he fled to Syria , but soon returned to the territory annexed by Jordan at the invitation of his comrade, who offered Nabhani an appointment for the post of Qadi in part of Jerusalem occupied by Jordan.
Then he was promoted to the position of judge of the Sharia Court of Appeal in Jerusalem.
In 1950, Nabhani resigned and began teaching sharia in the capital of Jordan, Amman .
In 1953, due to ideological differences with the Muslim Brotherhood movement [3] , he founded the Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami party (Islamic Liberation Party), the main doctrine of which is the re-creation of the Caliphate to return the Muslims to Sharia-based lifestyle.
An-Nabhani became the ideologue of the party, the “ mujtahid ”, whose fatwas (resolutions) became the leadership of the party members. Soon, the party’s activities were banned in Jordan, and in 1955 Nabkhani’s entry into that country was also banned. An-Nabhani continued to be active in Lebanon , Syria and Iraq , where he was also persecuted by the authorities [4] .
He published a large number of books, brochures and articles on ideological, political and theological topics.
He died in Beirut (Lebanon) in 1977.
