The song was released on June 15, 2018 as a single by Sony and Ultra . The lyrics were written by Kirre Gorwell-Dahl , Dan Reynolds , Wayne Sermon , Ben Mackey and Dan Platzman. The composition was produced personally by Kygo .

History
On June 11, 2018, Kygo announced a collaboration with the American rock band Imagine Dragons , posting an Instagram post depicting himself and the band members, adding emojis in the form of a musical note in the signature [1] [2] . The next day, Kygo published the cover of the single [3] . On June 14, on Twitter , the performers published an excerpt from the song and announced the release date [4] . In a statement, Kygo said “Born To Be Yours” seems to me to be the perfect combination of my music with mixed characteristics of the band’s vocals. Dragons is one of my favorite bands, and it is my honor to finally let everyone hear what we have been working on ” [5] .
Composition
“Born To Be Yours” is a rock song that contains elements of folk music . The song includes “chill electronic beat” accompanied by “hand claps and acoustic guitar ” [6] [7] . Listeners describe the style of the song as “a fusion of Kygo's signature tunes and typical Imagine Dragons instrumental, combined with Dan Reynolds ' celestial voice” [8] [9] .
Critical Reaction
Your EDM Matthew Madow praised the song, calling it “a delightfully sweet song that goes straight to the point.” He describes the composition as “the perfect combination of sounds from both artists,” adding that “Kygo’s music is combined with acoustic guitar strings and Reynolds’s voice” [10] . Dancing Astronaut's Ryan Castillo described the song as “representing the perfect artistic synergy between the unmistakable vocal quality of an American band and Kygo’s melodic tropical chord progressions.” He noted the most refreshing feature of the song, as the integration of elements from other Kygo musical works, and ultimately found the track “balanced, deeply touching and impressively cold collaboration” [11] .
Music video
June 27, 2018, an official video was published on YouTube . In the video, the main character is a yeti , who thinks that he found his love on the Web , but everything turns out not to be what he expected. However, he could find his happiness [12] . The director of the video was Matt Istin, who had already shot for the Imagine Dragons videos “ Believer ”, “ Whatever It Takes ” and “ On Top of the World ” [12] . Neither Kygo nor the band’s musicians appear in the video.
