Creation History
On September 7, 2018, through an Instagram account , Del Rey announced the release of two new songs, “Ideal for ending the summer,” revealing the name of one of the two - “ Mariners Apartment Complex ”. In addition, the performer confirmed that both tracks were produced by Jack Antonoff [2] , the winner of three Grammy awards, and sound engineer Laura Sisk [3] worked on the mix. The name of the second song (“Venice Bitch”), as well as its release date (September 18), was disclosed in a press release published by The Fader on September 12 [4] . In addition, on September 7, the performer published a picture that later turned out to be the cover of “Mariners Apartment Complex” - Del Rey is imprinted in a T-shirt with the words “Venice Bitch”, the name of the second single [3] . On September 17, the performer confirmed the release of the song on September 18 in the program of Zane Lowe on the Beats 1 radio station, also publishing a 30-second excerpt of the composition [5] . A few hours before the premiere, Zane Lowe announced that the song lasted about ten minutes [6] - thus, “Venice Bitch” became the singer’s longest song [7] . In addition to the “Venice Bitch” performed on Beats 1 , Del Rey gave a telephone interview where she shared the details of creating the track.

Music Style and Criticism
“Venice Bitch” is a psychedelic pop song [9] [10] . The Rolling Stone magazine wrote that the track “begins like a tender ballad , and Del Rey again touches on the themes of young love and modern America, singing about it with an acoustic guitar and sophisticated strings :“ Ice cream and the snow queen, / I dream in jeans and leather, / Life is a dream, and I want to be nice to you. "Oh my god, my lips miss you, / It's me, your little bitch from Venice." In the middle, “Venice Bitch” becomes simply a divine psychedelic improvisation, and then gradually moves to a cerebral and ambiguous ending ” [1] . Music video
A video clip for the song was presented on YouTube simultaneously with the release of the track. The movie was directed by Caroline "Chuck" Grant, Del Rey's younger sister. The video was taken by girls from the dance of Lana Del Rey (Ashley Rodriguez and Alexandria Kaye). The video clip is made in retro stylistics and contains many repeating “hypnotic” fragments [8] .
Live Performance
On October 30, 2018, Del Rey made an unexpected appearance at the Apple Event in Brooklyn . The singer, accompanied by Jack Antonoff, performed a shortened and censored version of the song, calling it “ Venice Chick ” (from the English - “Chicken from Venice”).
