The Medal “For Courage in the Fire” is a state award of the Russian Federation . It was established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated September 15, 2018 No. 519 “On the establishment of the medal“ For Courage in Fire ”and the establishment of the honorary title“ Honored Worker of the Fire Service of the Russian Federation ”” [1] [2] .

History
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 31, 1957, the medal “For Courage in Fire” was established to reward firefighters, members of voluntary fire brigades, military personnel and other citizens who distinguished themselves in extinguishing fires, saving people, socialist property and property of citizens from fire [3] [4] .
December 25, 1991, in accordance with the law adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic , the RSFSR was renamed the Russian Federation. On December 26, 1991, the USSR ceased to exist, Russia stood out from it as an independent state. On April 21, 1992, the Congress of People’s Deputies of Russia approved the renaming, making appropriate amendments to the Constitution of the RSFSR , which entered into force on May 16, 1992 from the date of publication. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation dated March 2, 1992 No. 2424-1, prior to the adoption of the law on state awards, the Russian award system retained some of the insignia that existed in the USSR, including the medal "For Courage in the Fire" [5] [6 ] ] .
The medal “For courage in the fire” was not included in the new award system, approved by decree of the President of the Russian Federation of March 2, 1994 No. 442 [7] , however, similar medals were established by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Russian Ministry of Emergencies in 2001 year [8] and 2002 [9] respectively.
By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated September 15, 2018 No. 519 “On the establishment of the medal“ For Courage in Fire ”and the establishment of the honorary title“ Honored Worker of the Fire Service of the Russian Federation ”, the medal was again returned to the award system of the Russian Federation [1] [2] .
Medal Regulation
According to the regulation on the award, approved by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 519 of September 15, 2018, the medal is awarded to employees of the federal fire service of the State Fire Service , military personnel and other citizens of the Russian Federation: for courage, bravery and selflessness shown in putting out fires, saving people and property from fire; for the skillful management of the fire fighting service units to extinguish fires, save people and property from fire, organize and conduct emergency rescue operations; for courage, courage and perseverance shown in preventing an explosion in a fire or fire [10] .
The regulation provides for the award of a medal to foreign citizens who have shown “courage and bravery in extinguishing fires and conducting rescue operations in the territory of the Russian Federation” [10] .
Awarding the medal “For courage in a fire” can be done posthumously [10] .
The medal is worn on the left side of the chest and, in the presence of other medals of the Russian Federation, is located after the medal “For the difference in the protection of the state border” . For special cases and possible everyday wear, the regulation provides for the wearing of a miniature copy of the medal, which is located after the miniature copy of the medal “For the difference in the protection of the state border” [10] .
When wearing the uniform “For courage in a fire” ribbon on uniform, it is also located on the bar after the ribbon for the medal “For the difference in guarding the state border” [10] .
Description
The medal “For courage in a fire” is made of silver . It has the shape of a circle with a diameter of 32 mm with a convex rim on both sides [11] .
On the obverse of the medal, in the center, is an image of a fire helmet on the background of crossed fire axes . In the upper part, around the circumference, there is an inscription in relief letters, covered with red enamel: “FOR BOLD ON FIRE” , in the lower part there are crossed laurel and oak branches [11] .
On the reverse of the medal, on the circumference, there is an image of a wreath of oak and laurel leaves. In the center is an image of a rectangle with a medal number [11] .
The medal is connected with an eye and a ring to a pentagonal block covered with a silk, moire ribbon of dark red color. On the edges of the tape are cornflower blue stripes bordered on both sides with white stripes. The width of the tape is 24 millimeters, the width of the strips of cornflower blue is 3 millimeters, the width of the strips of white is 1 millimeter [11] .
