History
The city was founded on November 17, 1960 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , approximately 90 kilometers west-north-west (WNW) from Tunha , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1147 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Otanche borders in the northwest with the territory of the municipality of Puerto Boyac , in the northeast with the municipality of Pauna , in the east with the municipality of San Pablo de Borbor , in the southeast with the municipality of Muso , in the south with the municipality Kipama , in the north - with the territory of the Department of Santander , in the south-west - with the territory of the Department of Kundinamarca . The area of the municipality is 512 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 10,660 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 52.8% of the Otanche population, women - 47.2%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 97.1% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 2.9% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 82.9%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Otanche is agriculture [1] and mining (emeralds and coal).
55.3% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 38% are service enterprises, 6.3% are industrial enterprises, 0.4% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transport
National Highway 60 passes through the city ( Spanish: Ruta Nacional 60 ).
