Biography

Nikolai Nikitich Dobrynin was born in Tula in a large merchant family belonging to a noble dynasty of merchants Dobrynins [1] [2] . Received home education. Then he was engaged in merchant activities, helping his father Nikita Andreevich in commercial matters, and by 1846 he was already a merchant of the 2nd guild and an honorary citizen.

In December 1846, the Tula city society was first elected to the post of mayor for the next three years. The direct duties were actively combined with charity work. During his tenure from December 1846 to January 1850, he was repeatedly awarded the highest gratitude and goodwill for such activities, including those set out in several rescripts [3] from Emperor Nicholas I and Empress Alexandra Fedorovna .

During the Crimean War of 1853-1856. repeatedly made substantial donations to the needs of the Russian imperial army and families of lower ranks. For this, in 1858 he was twice awarded the dark bronze medal "In Memory of the War of 1853-1856" [3] . It was a rare at least, and maybe a unique case in the history of the award of a civil medal with this medal [4] .

In January 1856, N. N. Dobrynin, at the choice of the Tula city society, re-assumed the post of mayor and has been in this position for two consecutive three years, until December 1861. For the service of the mayor for three terms, he was allowed to wear a uniform assigned to this position with sewing on the collar and cuffs for the Ministry of the Interior in the relevant category [3] [5] .

Upon taking office as mayor in 1856, he was approved by the director of the Prison Committee. In 1869, N. N. Dobrynin was elected honorary magistrate of the Tula district [6] and was elected to this position every three years until 1884 [3] [7] by the Tula district zemstvo assembly.

On the basis of the highly approved city regulations of June 16, 1870, according to which the transformation of city public self-governments was followed [8] , in December 1870, N. N. Dobrynin was elected mayor for the first four years by the assembly of vowels from the city. In the same year he was awarded the corresponding official sign on a silver chain [9] [10] . During the subsequent 2nd, 3rd and 4th four years in a row, N. N. Dobrynin was invariably elected to the post of mayor and was in this position until January 1887. Thus, the total duration of his stay in this position was 25 years, and the total number of ballots was seven times. The case is as unique as the double award of the medal "In memory of the war of 1853-1856" [4] .

Staying at the post of the Tula mayor, N. N. Dobrynin continued to charity, the essence of which consisted mainly of large donations of funds, both for state needs and for the needs of ordinary people. This is confirmed by his formulary list [3] . As mayor, as early as 1847, he became a member of the Tula Provincial Guardianship of orphanages, starting with a modest position as treasurer of guardianship. Over the years, staying and working in trusteeship became his calling, and already in 1865 he was appointed director of the Tula Nikolaev Children's Orphanage [11] [12] . A little later, N. N. Dobrynin donated to the shelter a personally owned large plot of land with a garden and acquired a neighboring house, which was included in the complex of buildings of the entire shelter [13] . For this, he was declared grateful to Their Imperial Majesties [3] . In addition to the Nikolaev children's shelter, N. N. Dobrynin was also appointed to the post of chairman of the board of trustees of the Tula Gymnasium in 1873 [3] [14] [15] .

In December 1877, N. N. Dobrynin was mercifully granted noble dignity with descendants descending from him by a registered Supreme Order given to the Governing Senate - “to commemorate the centennial activity of the Dobrynins trading house, whose members were constantly distinguished both in the field of trade and industry, and in public service, participating in various charity affairs ” [3] . In 1879, N. N. Dobrynin requested that the Tula Noble Assembly meet his entry in the first part of the Noble genealogy of the Tula province. And in the same year he was granted a letter of accusation regarding the introduction of his family into the genealogical book of the nobles of the Tula province [16] , and also granted the Highest approved diploma describing the family coat of arms of the Dobrynins [17] .

N. N. Dobrynin, as mayor, was twice called for the coronation of sovereigns - Alexander II in 1856 [3] and Alexander III in 1883 [18]

Old age and a serious illness did not allow N.N. Dobrynin to run again for the post of Tula mayor in 1887. He died on December 1 (13), 1887 in Tula, and was buried in the All Saints cemetery of the city [19] [to 1] . The newspaper "Tula Provincial Gazette" so covered this mourning event:

“On December 1, at 3 am, he died at the age of 77 after a long and serious illness, art. owls Nikolai Nikitich Dobrynin. The deceased was born in Tula on October 29, 1811 and for 25 years served as the Tula Mayor, and also served for a long time in charitable institutions of the city of Tula, for which he repeatedly received the highest awards - as the director of the Tula Nikolaev Children's Orphanage, the late N. N. Dobrynin donated to this institution a plot of land with a garden, for which he was declared the highest appreciation. In addition, the deceased was known in Tula for his kind heart and generous charity. ”
