History

In December 1928, it was decided to build a large cinema "Goskino named after Lenin" on Lenin Square (the current intersection of Postal Avenue and St. Nicholas Street ). The project of the All-Ukrainian Film Management called “The Green Town” was approved on April 29, 1929 (architect Iosif Karakis [2] ), the opening was planned in the same year. In March 1930, the Kryvyi Rih City Council allocated funds for the purchase of equipment, and on August 25 - for a sound device. Due to delays in working drawings and interruptions in the supply of materials, the initial completion of the construction was postponed to May 1, 1930. The hall of the new cinema, built in the style of constructivism, had 720 seats.

On September 10, 1930, the first phonic film was screened. In July 1932, the cinema was renamed the Komsomol Cinema named after Lenin. In 1934, the old name was returned. Then, at the cinema, a branch of the Postyshev children's cinema was opened at the Prodsoyuz club on weekends and during the holidays, where the price of a children's ticket was 20 kopecks.

The grand opening of the new foyer took place on June 1, 1936 - a fountain was built, a buffet restaurant, a dance floor began to work, a brass band played, and children’s cinema study groups and movie reviews began to work at the cinema. The cinema became the base during the film festivals - the quality of the films' advertising was improved, which began to be accompanied by annotations, day sessions were introduced, the service was improved, which contributed to an increase in the number of viewers and an improvement in the financial condition. In October 1936, a month and a festival of children's films were successfully held, the number of visitors to which exceeded 5,000 people. The cinema jazz orchestra served the city recruitment center, where in 1938 he regularly gave concerts.

By 1941, insufficient ventilation and intense humidity led to a deterioration in the exterior and interior of the building. Shortly before the start of World War II, the film “ Bogdan Khmelnitsky ” was the most successful, with more than 16,000 spectators.

In 1953, the construction of the portico in the classical style was completed, the facade was decorated with columns (architect V. I. Sumaneev). The style of construction became the Stalinist Empire. In 1959, a large wide-format hall with 800 seats was added.

In 1960-1990, the cinema was the place of premieres, meetings with actors and directors, thematic exhibitions were held in the lobby.

According to the decree of the Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk State Administration dated April 12, 1996 No. 158-r, the Lenin Cinema is an architectural monument of local importance with security number 131.

In April 1999, the Center disco club was opened in the former cinema.

In 2002, the Kryvyi Rih diocese leased the former large cinema hall, which since 2005 has become the property of a religious community. The premises were reconstructed, and in 2006 a bell tower was added.

In 2016, a new recreation area was opened at the cinema - a fountain was equipped, a public garden was planted, and an outdoor lighting system was installed. In 2017, the reconstruction of the building of the former cinema is carried out as a prospect for the socio-economic development of the Central City District . Responsibility for the implementation of the repair project was assigned to the administration of the Krivoy Rog diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
