General Information
Two champions of the 2004 Games played in Beijing: Chileans Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massa , who won three medals in men's tournaments.
In the women's singles for the second time in the history of such tournaments, the whole country won the podium: Elena Dementieva ; Dinara Safina and Vera Zvonareva allowed the Russian team to repeat the achievement of the British national team a hundred years ago. Also, these three medals allowed the Eurasian team to become the most successful team in a tennis tournament. For the third time, Elena Dementieva, who participated in the Olympic tournament, was able to win the finals of the singles at the second attempt.
The Spaniard Rafael Nadal became the strongest in the men's singles competition, who at that time spent one of the best periods of his career and shortly before the Beijing tournament for the first time won the non-Grand Prix Grand Slam tournament. Nadal's medal was for Spain the tenth in tennis tournaments, but for the first time its representatives not only made their way to the podium, but also climbed to its highest step. In the final with Rafael played the Chilean Fernando González , who won the Olympic medal in this category at the second Olympics in a row.
In the women's doubles, the strongest were the Williams sisters, who won a similar competition for the second time in their careers. The Americans repeated the achievement of their compatriots Gigi and Mary-Joe Fernandez by the number of titles in this category. Venus, moreover, became the first three-time champion of the Olympic tournaments (in 2000, she won a single competition).
In the men's doubles, the strongest were the Swiss Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka , who brought their country the first ever “gold” in this category of Olympic competitions. The victory of Roger and Stanislas allowed European countries for the first time since 1992 to become the strongest in this type of competition.
