When a match is won, the winner received 1 point, with a tie in the match, both opponents received half a point, and for a loss in the match - 0 points. When winning the first two games in a row, the match ended ahead of schedule in favor of the winner (2: 0), and the third game was not played. Kerala scored 3 points: he finished 6 matches in a draw [1] and lost 5 (party result - 12 out of 31).

He played mainly in the Weghuber cafe. His constant opponent was another participant in the Vienna tournament of 1873, O. Gelbfus . [2] [3]

It is also known that Heral was engaged in a chess composition. In one of the obituaries, he is called "a talented representative of the Austrian school of problemists" [5]

There are different interpretations in determining the dates of Heral's life. J. Gage points out that Heral died on September 27, 1877 [6] , however this is the date of the death of O. Gelbfus. [7] The obituary of Heral is placed in No. 3 of the magazine " Deutsche Schachzeitung ". [2] [8] This article provides data from the „Niederösterreichischer Schachchronik“. [9]

There is a photo of Heral in E. Winter's book "Edward Winter's Chess Notes" (CN 3478). [2]
