Monument History
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin of December 1, 2006 , in each city awarded the honorary title of “City of Military Glory”, a stela dedicated to this event is established. Anapa was awarded this high rank on May 5, 2011 by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev [2] . The Council of Veterans of War, Labor, the Armed Forces and law enforcement bodies petitioned for the assignment of this title to Anapa.
On the website of the administration of the resort city, regarding the conferment of the title, such explanatory information was given:
| “The warlike history of Anapa is rooted in the distant past - at a time when a Turkish fortress was located on the site of the present resort. It was she who became the most important strategic, political and stronghold, which turned into a real stumbling block of two powers - the struggle of Russia with the Ottoman Empire. 5 times over 40 years, Russian troops went to storm the fortress, more than 12 thousand soldiers were killed under its walls. And only for the 6th time the fortress was finally subjugated by the Russians. In 1942, Anapa was occupied by Nazi invaders, and the whole year the city experienced all the horrors of bondage. During the days of occupation, partisan units operated in the forests near the village of Gostagayevskaya and the village of Sukko. Warriors of the Red Army and Black Sea sailors performed feats on Anapa land. The legendary captain, Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Kalinin, who was buried by enemies with all military honors, and Hero of the Soviet Union Suren Arakelyan, who repeated the deed of Alexander Matrosov, performed his immortal feat on Anapa land. Soviet troops liberated the resort on September 21, 1943, while fierce battles for the territory of the city went to sea, on land and in the sky. Currently, the resort has a reverent and respectful attitude to the history of the city, active military-patriotic work is underway, and monuments are carefully guarded. Last year, all monuments of military history were restored in Anapa, meetings of war veterans with youth and schoolchildren are regularly held. ” |
The construction of the stele is directly determined by the “Regulation on the conditions and procedure for awarding the honorary title of the Russian Federation“ City of Military Glory ””, which was approved by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of December 1, 2006 No. 1340.
