Biography

Andrey Snitko was born on January 25, 1996 in the village of Goraymovka ( Manevich district , Volyn region , Ukraine ). His mother raised him, but when Andrew was 11 years old, she died. The boy was taken to her family by a resident of Manevichi - Raisa Halyk.

He graduated from school number 1 in Manevichi and entered the Eastern European National University named after Lesya Ukrainka at the Institute of Physical Culture and Health. But studying in these institutions was only a few months. After the start of Euromaidan, Andrei became his active participant and spent a lot of time in Kiev. In May he joined the battalion "Azov" in Kiev , received the call sign "Thomas".

He was a party to the armed conflict in the east of Ukraine . He took part in the confrontation in Mariupol . Andrey Snitko died on August 20, 2014 during the battles for Ilovaysk . Being at the head of the office of the three soldiers was ambushed during the sweep of the building. A hand grenade was thrown at the Ukrainian fighters, which he covered with his body.

He was buried in Manevich.

On January 25, 2015, a memorial plaque was installed on the school building in Manevichi, where Snitko studied [1] .

  • The title Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star Order (November 21, 2016, posthumously) - “for personal courage and heroism shown in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people” [2] ;
