University of Defense ( Czech. Univerzita obrany ) - the only higher military state educational institution in the Czech Republic . Located in Brno . It is an organizational unit of the Czech Ministry of Defense, therefore the university has limited self-government and is not managed by the Ministry of Education, but by the Ministry of Defense.

History
It was created on September 1, 2004 as a result of the merger of 3 military schools - the Military Academy in Brno (founded in 1951), the Military University of the Infantry Forces in Vishkov (founded in 1947) and the Military Medical Academy of Jan Evangelista Purkine in Hradec Králové (founded in 1988).

The University of Defense provides training for military specialists for the needs of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic and civilian specialists, especially for the state security system, defense industry and public administration.
Foreign citizens can only enroll in civilian specialties and individually. The decision on admission is made by the university rector personally.
