Contest History

The first festival was held in 2002 in Jurmala. Its founders are Igor Krutoy and Raymond Pauls . First Winners - Smash Duet !! . In 2014, due to some near-political events, it was decided to transfer it to Sochi. [3] The future superstar of the Russian stage, Dmitry Bilan, took fourth place that year. [4] The following year, the winner of the competition was Anastasia Stotskaya, who later also became a popular performer in Russia.

Since 2008, it has become a tradition to sculpt a bas-relief dedicated to a particular festival every year. The action was held jointly with UNESCO . [5] [6] [4]

Another memorable milestone in the history of the contest was the cancellation ceremony of the New Wave postage stamp. This happened in 2011 - during the anniversary, tenth festival. July 26 in the square near the concert hall "Dzintari" was a bright opening of the Avenue of Stars with commemorative signs installed there.
