History
The holiday was invented by the expedition members of the Committee for Meteorites of the USSR Academy of Sciences to search for the debris of the Sikhote-Alin meteorite . At first it was noted in the taiga at the site of a meteorite during several expeditions in 1967-1975. According to the recollections of the expedition chief Yevgeny Krinov , on that day, the researchers summed up the seasonal work and arranged a festive dinner. The date was not chosen by chance — September 17, the birthday of one of the expedition leaders, an Estonian geologist, a famous Soviet meteorite researcher Ago Aaloe .
